For those who have signed up for Rakuten, today is the payout day for Q4 2023 earnings! This was one of our biggest quarters to date, and we are excited to share that we earned a total of 310,815 American Express Membership Reward Points 🥂🛍️.

To put things in perspective, what we earned is equivalent to two American Express Business Platinum sign-up bonuses for 150k each, with a spend requirement of over $30,000. However, we were able to earn this amount by spending only a fraction of that, thanks to Rakuten’s offers on our everyday shopping and a few low-cost subscriptions and account sign-ups.

As mentioned before, our goal is to optimize every dollar we spend, and Rakuten is one of the best ways to stack those earnings on top of whatever sign-up bonus or card you are using to maximize your rewards.

Here are the top Rakuten offers we took advantage of this quarter:

  • 40,000pts: Sofi Banking (2) plus $550 cash bonus
  • 186,916 points: (4) LifeLock Subscriptions for 95 points per $1. See my previous post on how I earned over 50k points on each subscription.
  • 11,568pts: Surf Shack subsciption at 100 points per $1
  • 24,000pts: We took advantage of the Staples 10x back in-store offer by purchasing gift cards during the fee-free week. Also, earning an additional 16,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points for using our CIC.
  • 11,010: Sam’s Club 12x back during Black Friday, I purchased $500 worth of gift cards for only $399.99 (before they excluded gift card purchases). To make the deal even better, I used a Chase 10% cash back offer which gave me an additional $24 off. I also charged it to my CIBU SUB which earned me an extra 6,600 Chase URs. On top of that, I will also earn 4,000 Rapid Reward points from Southwest for my flights on $500 Wanna-Get-Away Plus flights!

The cash value of these points is $3,108.15, which is already amazing for cashback. However, we know that we can get more than 5x that value depending on how we redeem the points.

How did everyone else do this quarter? What are some of the offers you took advantage of?
